A new ride share app that’s operated by a global company has just debuted in Toronto and the GTA.

Sick of Uber? Want more alternatives? Enter Hopp.

Hopp is affiliated with Bolt, a European company operating in 50 countries worldwide. They’ve just launched service in Toronto, as well as Mississauga, Richmond Hill, Markham and Vaughan, with plans to expand even further.

The service has a mission of putting users and drivers first in several ways. Hopp includes rider and driver profile photos, driver background checks, 24/7 customer support and real-time ride tracking.

Drivers and riders can share their location live, and if trips are rated one star, riders and drivers are automatically unmatched for future requests.

Hopp’s safety team also automatically checks in with drivers and riders if vehicles remain still for too long, change their route or take longer than expected to finish trips. You can also add trusted contacts in the app that Hopp can contact if the rider isn’t able to be reached.

Hopp also allows drivers to keep more of their earnings while still keeping trips affordable for riders.

“Canada’s ride-hailing market holds significant untapped potential, offering opportunities for innovation and competition. Yet, lack of competition has resulted in fewer choices and less favourable conditions for both drivers and customers,” said David Riggs, general manager for Canada at Hopp.

“Toronto and the GTA face growing transportation needs, and Hopp is here to complement the city’s existing infrastructure by providing an alternative to private car ownership. Canada stood out as an ideal market for Hopp because of the demand for efficient, reliable and affordable mobility options. We are not just offering another way to travel but striving to enhance urban living by reducing car dependency, starting in one of Canada’s most dynamic regions.”

Hopp can be downloaded from the Apple and Google Play stores.
