A Toronto drag queen who won the first ever season of Canada’s Drag Race is getting a TV show.
Queen Priyanka (AKA Mark Suknanan) will soon be starring in Drag Brunch Saved My Life, which Suknanan co-created with Daniel Birnbaum.
“When I was 17 years old, I fought my way to be on camera for a local tv show called Durham Dining – I couldn’t remember my lines, I dressed like a old man but most of all I just wanted to entertain people,” reads a post from Priyanka on social media that has nearly 13,000 likes and hundreds of comments.
“Now I can officially announce that DRAG BRUNCH SAVED MY LIFE will feature restaurant make overs, local drag queens, new original music and a new drag brunch for you to attend.”
The new show was introduced as part of Bell Media’s announcement of their 2024/25 original programming and should be available to watch on Crave.
Priyanka’s post contains a synopsis of Drag Brunch Saved My Life that reads, “In a post-pandemic world where restaurants are struggling to make ends meet – Priyanka, flanked by her haute cuisine experts, event planning extraordinaires, and locally ‘Pri-picked queens,’ embark on a mission to give restaurants a second shot by helping them stage their very own drag brunch production.”
It’s not the first time Priyanka has hosted a show, having also hosted HBO’s We’re Here. Priyanka is also coming out with debut album Devastatia in August and is going on a world tour starting in October.
