Only Canadian pizza chef on list of world’s 100 best is from Toronto

The Best Chef Awards just put out their list of best pizza chefs for 2024, and a single Canadian chef from Toronto made the cut.

Ryan Baddeley of popular Pizzeria Badiali is the lone Canadian to make the list, coming in at a cool 32 out of 100 chefs total.

Of course, over 40 chefs from Italy make up almost half the list, and obviously the number one chef is Italian. Franco Pepe from Pepe in Grani in Caiazzo, Italy clinched the top spot.

17 chefs from the United States made the list, including Mark Iacono of Lucali at number 12, Sarah Minnick of Lovely’s Fifty Fifty at number 20 and Wylie Dufresne of Stretch Pizza at number 24.

Though many of the top chefs on the list are from Italy, Jorge Sastre and Rafa Panatieri of Sartoria Panatieri came in right at number two. Daniele Cason earned the number seven spot for his work at The Pizza Bar on 38th. Tsubasa Tamaki from another Japanese restaurant, Pizza Studio Tamaki, made number nine on the list.

Other chefs on the list hail from Brazil, Guatemala, the Netherlands, the UK, Thailand, the Philippines, Croatia, Norway and Slovakia.
