Oshawa Market’s opening weekend “amazing” – full capacity expected in two weeks

Oshawa Markets owner Erik Tamm called the opening weekend of the city’s newest flea market “amazing,” despite still working out a few final kinks in the operation.
“It was more than we could have imagined,” he said, adding that his team estimated 15,000 people visited over the two days. “For a soft opening the vendors were very, very happy.”
Tamm said he was at about 80 per cent capacity for vendors on opening weekend and he estimated he should be at 100 per cent by the first weekend of November.
“We’ve added a few more this weekend but the vendors are still moving in,” he explained. “This is the last weekend at other markets for some of our vendors so by next week I expect us to be full.”
The mens’ washroom wasn’t ready opening weekend – a trailer was brought in for that service – but that work is now complete and Tamm said the final piece of the market – the food court – should be in place in two or three weeks.
The Oshawa Markets moved operations to the former Zellers Plaza in Oshawa this fall after 47 years in Pickering.
