A local BIA is celebrating the launch of its new app-guided tour with a party that will feature food, games, a mini-walking tour and a movie.

Recently, the Cabbagetown BIA announced that a free screening of the 2003 Jack Black hit School of Rock will take place at its upcoming June 15 launch party. The party, which will kick off at Winchester Park (530 Ontario St.) at 6 p.m., will celebrate the organization’s new self-directed walking tour initiative: Mainstreet Mosaic Tours: Exploring Heritage and Hubs.

According to the BIA’s website, the tour will help residents and visitors learn more about the neighbourhood’s history and provide insight into the area’s landmarks, architecture, and more.

The BIA’s social media pages say the launch party will feature a range of food vendors, including Gushi Japanese Street Food, Super Bargain Cocktail Bar, La Gloria Mexican Coffee Shop and the Great Mallard County Market. Foods available for purchase at the event will include chicken karaage, mochi, charcuterie boxes, chilaquiles, Mexican coffee and smoothies, burgers, hot dogs and more.

School of Rock will begin at 9 p.m.

“Bring your blankets, pillows, and best air guitar skills for a fun-filled night under the stars. Plus, we’ve got popcorn covered,” the BIA said on social media.

Organizers say attendees can also take dance lessons and check out live music and a photo exhibit. The event will also feature a caricature artist, face painting and the opportunity to participate in a mini-walking tour hosted by the Cabbagetown Preservation Association.

The event is free to attend and suitable for people of all ages.
