Remote-control car enthusiasts in Hamilton take note — a longtime hobby shop is ready to start its engines at a new location on Tuesday.
Chris’s House is set to open what a recent Instagram post called “a new larger, better faster, stronger and goofier shop” at 259 Cannon St. E., between Wellington St. N. and Victoria Ave. N in the Lansdale neighbourhood. A distinctive orange sign with blue and black accenting is in place, and posts written by owner Chris Mifsud indicate the doors will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday (March 21).
Fittingly, that happens to be the first day of spring — a time for new beginnings, and presumably a point in the calendar when RC car operators know they will have dry, clear outdoor paved surfaces to run their vehicles.
The store offers an online shop (chrishouse.ca) and complements sales with an enthusiasist ethos. The price point of the hobby has a wide range, with full cars at the online shop ranging from $130 to $980. Chris’s House also focuses on selling new parts to help RC hobbyists repair or upgrade vehicles.
Using YouTube to inform and entertain the racer community is one way Chris’s House attempts to add value and enjoyment. Mifsud has an active YouTube channel (@ChrisHouseHobby) with professionally filmed vids.
For the last 14 years, Chris’s House was located at 421 Concession St. in a converted house. A Hamilton media report in late 2021 indicated that Mifsud had bought a warehouse on Cannon St., the same street as the new location.
