If you’re looking for an authentic Italian dining experience in Ontario, people from Italy think there are a few gems worth visiting.

This week, the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario Canada announced that 10 acclaimed Italian restos–including two Toronto hotspots with coveted Michelin star–received prestigious Marchio Ospitalita Italiana recognition.

ICCO Canada says Ospitalita’ Italiana—Ristoranti Italiani nel Mondo is a worldwide project designed to recognize authentic Italian restaurants abroad and ensure their compliance with quality standards typical of Italian hospitality.

Ospitalità Italiana awards real Italian restaurants with the “Golden Q,” the Ospitalita’ Italiana label of Quality, ICCO says.

This year’s recipients include Casa Toscana in Grimsby, Boccaccio in North York, Via Mercanti in Woodbridge, Cibo Wine Bar (King West and Yorkville), DaNico (a Toronto restaurant that recently received a Michelin star), Don Alfonso 1890 (which received a Michelin star in 2022), La Bettola Di Terroni in Toronto, Terroni Sud Forno Produzione e Spaccio (Spaccio East) in Toronto and Costa Sorrento in Markham.

In a news release, ICCO says the Marchio Ospitalita Italiana recognition doesn’t just prove a restaurant is authentic, but also that it works to preserve “Italy’s rich culinary heritage.”

“Approved establishments become part of an exclusive international network, accessible to food lovers around the world through the official website, which enables travellers and locals alike to locate authentic Italian dining experiences,” ICCO says.

ICCO will celebrate this year’s recipients during the 2024 ICCO Unico Primo Pentola d’Oro Awards on Nov. 21.
