A sandwich business that lost their space in Toronto has now set up shop inside a taproom.

Zontwiches makes croissant sandwiches (‘sant-‘wiches, get it?) and once operated out of a shop alongside the popular Breadhead concept.

In early April, the businesses posted on social media that they “had to make the gut wrenching decision to walk away from the space on Dovercourt” saying it was “completely out of our control.”

“I knew this space would be somewhat temporary I just didn’t know how temporary,” reads the post. “I’m not going to get into reasons why publicly.”

They continued, “We aren’t giving up on Zontwiches because something stood in the way!” and said they were open to collaborations, pop-ups and catering while looking for a new home. The post concludes, “Do not flood my DMs with ‘why!’ I am exhausted having to constantly relive this trauma to everyone in my life.”

They weren’t down for long, though: by late April they were hiring, saying they were going to open in a new spot in about a month, and by early May they had announced they would be coming soon to Collective Arts’ Toronto location on Dundas West.

“We are so beyond excited to announce that we are taking over the kitchen at CATO to bring you zontwiches, finally,” reads a post announcing the good news. “Our pals graciously opened their arms and doors for us after we lost our space on Dovercourt. Tbh, what an enormous UPGRADE!”

They officially opened within Collective Arts in late May, and now serve croissant sandwiches stuffed with mortadella or chicken fried oyster mushrooms as well as salads and even sundaes in the space.

Zontwiches now operates out of Collective Arts in Toronto at 777 Dundas St. W.
