A beloved shop for gifts and stationery has just opened a new location to the delight of all those who love anything cute and adorable.

Hanji isn’t just known for selling cute gifts and intricate pop-up cards, they’ve also become neighbourhood highlights for their eye-popping window displays often featuring huge craft projects.

The owners are Hyun Suk and Catherine Choi, who met in South Korea while Catherine was teaching English as a Second Language and then fell in love and settled in Toronto. Hanji first opened in 2011, and since then has sold imported South Korean and local Toronto products.

The shop already has Koreatown and West Queen West locations, but now they’ve opened one in the Beaches neighbourhood.

“A few months ago, Hyun Suk and I were taking a stroll on Queen Street East and stumbled upon 1952 Queen Street East. We were actually about to turn to go down to the beach, but Hyun Suk said, ‘Let’s walk a bit further this way.’ We saw the space where The Body Shop had been (for 37 years!!!) was for lease and instantly knew it would be where we would finally open an east end Hanji. Fast forward to 2 months later, and BAM! We are open,” reads a post from the shop on social media.

“The Beach community has welcomed us beyond our wildest imaginations. Everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and it brings me to happy tears multiple times a day. Running a shop like ours is a lot of work, and to see that hard work received so positively is so overwhelming. Thank you to the entire Hanji team for all your hard work in making this hope become a reality. Thank you to all our loyal customers for supporting us for almost 13 years.”

The post has over 500 likes from Hanji’s supporters, and the new location is now open in the Beaches.
