The team behind some of Toronto’s top Italian restaurants has just opened a brand new restaurant.

Chef Michael Angeloni and partners Adam Teolis and Yannick Bigourdan are behind Amano Trattoria and Bar Notte. Now, they’ve just opened the doors to new restaurant The Berczy.

The Berczy serves a North American bistro menu with French, Italian and Spanish influences that includes crab cakes, grilled oysters, octopus and rack of lamb. Over 50 wines, local and imported beers, and classic and contemporary cocktails are all available, and there’s even a special whiskey nook. They’re also serving brunch with live music and mimosas, and dishes on the menu include lobster Eggs Benny, stracciatella pancakes and Eggs in Purgatory.

Located in a renovated heritage building, the restaurant takes its name from nearby Berczy Park and features a 20-foot marble bar, brass details and a grand piano. There are daily live jazz, big band and piano performances by local talent starting at 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. One of the lead pianists is Joel Lightman of Great Canadian Dueling Pianos.

“We are thrilled to establish The Berczy Tavern in such a historic and vibrant part of Toronto,” said Adam Teolis, co-owner of The Berczy Tavern, in a press release. “Our goal is to create a space that feels both timeless and contemporary, where the community can come together to enjoy great food, live music, and a welcoming atmosphere.”

Angeloni actually frequented the space back when it was a Japanese restaurant during his culinary school days. The space was also formerly home to Le Papillon on Front, a French restaurant that had been in business in Toronto for 50 years.

“Old Town Toronto’s unique blend of history and modern vibrancy makes it the perfect home for The Berczy Tavern,” said Chef Michael Angeloni in a press release. “We’re excited to contribute to the neighbourhood’s rich culinary scene with a menu that reflects the diverse influences of my culinary journey. We want every diner to leave our restaurant feeling proud of living in Toronto, as the food, drinks, and atmosphere work in harmony to create an unforgettable experience.”

“Toronto needed a destination where people could go for unique experiences. Food and beverage is one thing, but adding music to the mix elevates it to another level,” added Teolis, “The Berczy is a combination of everything we love—perfect dining room, ambiance, and music. We aim to create that dinner party feel with music, warm lighting, and a lively atmosphere where tables aren’t too spread out.”

The Berczy is now open at 69 Front St. E.
