The Eddies celebrate best from high school filmmakers in Oakville, Burlington, Milton

After a three-year, pandemic-related hiatus, The Eddies are coming back to Milton.

Celebrating high school film makers in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills, The Eddies are coming to FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton on Monday, May 15. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the awards celebration will start at 7 p.m.

The Halton District School Board’s 19th annual gala, which will have screenings from this year’s winners, is free and open to the public.

The Halton Student Film Festival celebrates student success in filmmaking by recognizing technical and creative achievements and is open to all secondary students in the HDSB.

The Eddies awards are presented for various categories including best documentary, best comedy, best music video, best vlog, as well as technical awards for audio production, special effects, best cinematography and best actor.

The student films are judged by professionals in various roles within the film industry. Following the presentation of awards, winning entries will be shown on a large screen for all to enjoy.

“We are so excited to be celebrating The Eddies in person for the first time in a few years. Students, staff and family members are invited to come out and share in the success of the students,” said HDSB spokesperson Tiffany Olmsted.

“The Eddies are always an exciting event to host as the entries never cease to impress everyone who attends this event.”

Cogeco is providing scholarships to the top three entries overall, called the Palme d’Eddie, and Toronto Sound is providing a scholarship for the best sound technical category.

Award winners of The Eddies have gone on to achieve success in the film and television industry, with some capturing prestigious awards for their work.
