Bandai Namco just opened Canada’s first ever Gashapon capsule toy store, and it’s located in Toronto.

Gashapon is a trademark of Bandai, and the name for their vending machines dispensing capsule toys. The term “gashapon” is a form of onomatopoeia that comes from the sound of the machine’s crank being turned, and then the sound of the toy dropping.

The capsule machines and toys have become hugely popular and have gone viral on social media. Some assembly is often required to put the toys together, but that’s part of the fun.

Try your luck at capsule toy vending machines, and you could end up with any number of cute knick knacks (which often double as keychains) that look like cats wearing raincoats, anime characters, Godzilla, and so much more.

The Toronto store has hundreds of machines dispensing toys like Tamagotchi cases, Cardcaptor Sakura figurines, compact mirrors, Kirby characters, light-up bracelets and even toys that look like little foods and snacks like dim sum, bread, taiyaki, Ramune soda and grilled squid.

Toronto’s official Gashapon shop is now open at Union Station.
