Toronto's top five best sandwiches (Dundas West)

Whether you are a student or working on the go, the humble sandwich always provides and that’s why we selected the top five best sandwich spots in Toronto’s Dundas West neighbourhood.

While there are various places in Canada’s great metropolis where you can get a good sandwich, the convenience of grabbing one from a storefront, window, or stand separates these locations from the rest.

That’s why this deep dive focuses on places where quality isn’t the only dominant variable but also convenience.

Imanishi McCormick Park Cafe

Toronto's top five best sandwiches (Dundas West)

Where to begin? This humble cafe, which operates out of a shipping container alongside the Mary McCormick Recreation Centre, provides some of the best sandwiches in the Dundas West area.

The quality should be no surprise, as this well-kept secret is part of the Imanishi umbrella, a Toronto-based Japanese culinary powerhouse.

To kick things off, we picked one of the location’s most popular numbers: the Ebi Sando (panko-breaded prawns).

This sandwich is served on toasted milk bread alongside umami-filled slaw and tonkatsu/tartar sauce.

Hawk & Chick

This accessible storefront in Little Portugal provides Asian-inspired dishes; however, the fried chicken is the highlight.

To any passerby in this area who gets hit with a craving for something hot, spicy and easy to crush while walking — there is no better option than the Hot Chick Sammie.

This flavourful sando features chicken fried in chili beef fat and topped with a variety of Koren-style spices. It’s topped with a toasted brioche bun, tartar sauce, and pickles, making it one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in west Toronto.

Lambo’s Deli

Toronto's top five best sandwiches (Dundas West)

A foundation of Trinity Bellwoods, Lambo’s Deli has become an institution for its neighbourhood and the city.

A stone’s throw away from Trinity Bellwoods Park, this location provides massive submarine-style sandwiches that are so huge that they make you feel like you should be eating them dangling on a steel beam while building a skyscraper.

These sandwiches are packed with some of the freshest deli meats and other Italian-inspired ingredients, which makes the Italian Trio sandwich (seen here) an impossible miss.

Bhan Mi Vina

Toronto's top five best sandwiches (Dundas West)

This ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ storefront serves some of Dundas West’s best Bhan Mi sandwiches.

While the location may seem small and humble, the flavor is big. The fried pork Bhan Mi is guaranteed to satisfy any craving. However, reader beware: If you ask for it spicy, these experts will deliver.

Attached to a neighbourhood laundromat, this spot is great for any pedestrian or Torontonian looking for a snack while they do a quick load of laundry.

The Haifa Room

Toronto's top five best sandwiches (Dundas West)

This culinary institution on Dundas and Ossington well known for its sit-in experience features a delicious secret — an incredibly versatile take-out window.

The location, built on the pillars of both Arab and Jewish cuisine, provides some of the most flavourful food in the city.

Using these skills, chefs at The Haifa Room created The Sabich, a vegetarian toasted pita wrap loaded with cabbage, pickle, tomato, cucumber, onion, tahini, hot pepper, zhug (Yemenite hot sauce), parsley and egg.

Don’t let its slightly messy presentation fool you. This is, without a doubt, one of Toronto’s best sandwiches.
