5 – Golden Patty
Kensington Market has this no-frills bakery that’s open from morning ’til night for all your patty needs. They make many other baked goods as well, but they’re named for their patties which are some of their most popular items.
Their pastry, which is indeed golden yellow, is very puffy and floury, with big air pockets between the many layers. There’s a decent amount of meat in their spicy beef patty, which isn’t too intensely fiery with a very mild kick.
4 – Crumbs
This small but mighty shop operates out of a window in Kensington Market. Their patties are distinguished by an egg washed outer shell that’s so crispy and bubbly it almost feels like it was deep fried, with an amber orange colour.
The variety of gourmet patties at Crumbs are inspired by the founder’s trips to Jamaica where his mother was from. In addition to their delicious standard beef and curry chicken patties, they also serve creative patties stuffed with cheese, wrapped in cocobread, and topped with lettuce and tomato. Crumbs even serves pizza patties with pepperoni and brunch patties filled with eggs.

The patties here are made by the team behind popular next door restaurant Patois, so you know they’re some of the best in town with a price tag to match at almost $10 per patty.
The production process takes three days, and they’re uniquely square with X-shaped folds on top, a design that allows more filling to be packed into every corner of the tender pastry. These are the perfect patties for those who always want more of the crispy, crusty edges.
JunePlum’s signature is a smoked brisket in oxtail gravy variety that’s incredibly moist with big chunks of meat for a truly restaurant-level patty. The brisket is smoked for hours and braised in oxtail gravy for a filling that’s tangy, savoury and a little sweet. Other gourmet patty options are curry goat, coconut crab and vegan corn callaloo.
