You can get just about every type of salad imaginable in Toronto, but which places make the best ones?

There are so many different options for greens, proteins, toppings and dressings that it can be difficult to know where to start. But no matter whether you’re a vegetarian, trying to incorporate more balance into your diet or just love those greens, a great salad is always a delicious and healthy choice.

The best part is, many salad spots allow you to choose your own adventure by picking your own combo of nutritious ingredients.

Here are some of the best spots to grab a salad in Toronto.

5 – Forest Hill Farmhouse

Salads are the name of the game at this spot with multiple locations as well as a wide range of options, many of which have cute locally inspired names.

Some of their most popular options are hearty salads topped with roasted chicken, like their Forest Hill, Farmhouse Caesar or Coulson Cobb.

One of their meatless options that’s a little different from the rest is the Spadina Spring Roll, which has romaine, carrot, red pepper, red onion, noodles, peanuts, radish, mint, cucumber and a sesame vinaigrette for a refreshing salad that feels a little like a crunchy spring roll.

4 – Impact Kitchen

The health impact of every ingredient is carefully considered at all locations of this restaurant. If you’re just looking for a simple salad, they’ve got you covered with a couple basic but fortifying options.

There’s a Kale Caesar with roasted chickpea croutons, pumpkin seed parm and a cashew Caesar dressing, and a Green Goodness salad with spinach, lentils, roasted broccoli, cucumber, avocado, pumpkin seeds, pickled cabbage and pickled jalapeno. The latter is a great option if you’re looking for something light that has a little bit of everything and doesn’t skimp on flavour.

3 – imPerfect Fresh Eats

Salads here are pretty good value for money compared to some other places, and this restaurant has good ethics behind their eats with an emphasis on sustainability and whole foods.

Their salads often have a base of lots of hearty spinach, sometimes with a little spring mix, and also often contain rice or noodles as well to make them even heartier.

There are vegan and keto options, or you can feel a little luxurious with a surf and turf bowl with steak and shrimp. Their char chicken, chipotle chicken and hot honey chicken are super flavourful, and if you don’t eat meat, their tofu and mushrooms are very tasty as well.

2 – Vilda’s

This deli tucked inside an old convenience store on Dovercourt is mainly known for their sandwiches, but they serve a few excellent salads as well to round out their offerings.

There are typically options like a wedge salad, pasta salad and brassica chili salad on the menu, and a classic green salad called the Teen Greenie is usually always available.

It always tastes ultra fresh because Vilda’s always uses seasonal lettuce and veggies for this salad, and then they layer on the flavour with marinated mixed pickles, bold smoked cheddar and an addictive signature maple mustard vinaigrette.

1 – Mandy’s Salads

This Montreal-born restaurant with multiple Toronto locations is the reigning queen of salad in town. The backbone of their menu is all salads that are filling and packed with ingredients that are both nutritious and delicious. They’re also often doing seasonal specials, so there’s always something new to try.

They do classics like Cobbs and Caesars, but they also have their own signature recipes like The “Fave” with romaine lettuce, arugula, shredded carrots, corn, broccoli, avocado, baked pita chips, sunflower seeds and shaved parmesan.

If you like Asian-inspired salads, try the Peanut Satay salad with sweet mango, peanuts, aromatic mint, cilantro and basil, and big juicy chunks of peanut mock chicken.
