Top 5 sandwiches in Leslieville in Toronto

While Toronto has a ton of sandwich-savvy neighbourhoods, one east end location gives them a run for their money.

This week, in our hunt for Toronto’s perfect handhelds, we are gazing at one of Toronto’s most historic, diverse, and culinarily dynamic neighbourhoods — Leslieville.

Here are the top five sandwich spots in Toronto’s jewel of the east side.

Leslie’s Sandwich Room

A nook practically named for the neighbourhood it lives in, the esteemed Leslie’s Sandwich Room debuted last year to much fanfare. This can be mainly attributed to the location’s brilliantly crafted parade of sandwiches.

While there is much to offer when one steps in the door, we had to choose their signature standby, the La Morta.

This miracle on fresh focaccia features mortadella, cilantro pesto, insanely flavorful mozzarella and a pistachio crumble.

If you only have time to grab one east end sandwich — this may be your top contender.

Completo

Shifting away from the Euro-deli vibe, we land on Completo, a deliciously humble lunch and breakfast stop with a flare for American Southwest flavours.

If you are ever in Leslieville and crave something hot, hearty and spicy, the Classic Churrassco is the way to go.

This handheld is the perfect fix for those yearning for something with a little kick, as it features a toasted bun loaded with thinly sliced steak, avocado, tomato, mayo and red pepper sauce,

Throw a fried egg and cheese on there and you’re in business.

Daddy’s Chicken

If we told you this may be the best fried chicken sandwich in the city, would you believe us?

Because it sure is close.

Taking the sandwich rule of ‘less is more’ to a whole new extreme, the Classic Sandwich at Daddy’s comes with golden fried chicken thighs, chipotle mayo, coleslaw and, you guessed it, pickles.

With every sandwich crafted fresh to order, you will feel like everything at Daddy’s Chicken is made just for you — because it is.

Leslieville Pumps

One part vintage general store and one part smoke house, Leslieville Pumps offers the neighbourhood’s most flavorful BBQ that you can get with a side of skittles.

While there is much to sample at this endearing location, the Southern Beef Brisket sandwich is the best way to go.

Slow smoked beef brisket, crispy sweet onions, BBQ sauce, and sweet aioli make this sandwich one of the best in Toronto’s east end but.

Banh Mi Huy-Ki

You didn’t think there would not be a Banh Mi spot on this list, did you?

Closing things out, we have Banh Mi Huy-Ki, and much like our previous entry, this sandwich spot is nestled in the heart of a corner store.

While the BBQ Pork Banh Mi sandwich here comes with required fixings, a baguette with savoury and sweet pork, cilantro, cucumber, pickled carrot and daikon, all of which are immensely fresh, there is another thing that makes it special — the price point.

At only $5.50, this is likely the best sandwich you can get in Toronto for only a couple dollars more than bus fare.
