A popular local chain of taco restaurants is now branching out by opening a new upscale spot as well as a sandwich shop.
Gus Tacos is known for exactly what it sounds like: their classic tacos. Now, however, they’re diversifying their offerings.
They’ve opened a new upscale restaurant called Casa Morales, and have transformed one of their taco restaurants into Sanwich, a sandwich shop.
Casa Morales is located at 152 Augusta Ave. and still serves a menu that revolves around masa, but with some more punched-up options compared to Gus, and a few other elegant items to round things out.
For example, options from the “masa” section include a rib eye taco, a tlayuda with beef tongue and salad, and mushroom sopes with cremini and oyster mushrooms. They’re also serving a couple large mains like an arrachera dish of medium rare steak served with salsa and tortillas.
In addition, there are starters like brie empanadas, shrimp aguachile and rockfish ceviche, and desserts made by a house pastry chef like a flan de camote with candied pecan and plantain. There are also cocktails like a hibiscus margarita.
Sanwich took over the Gladstone location of Gus Tacos, and has switched things up from tacos to Mexican tortas. Options served on puffy buns include beef barbacoa, chicken Milanesa, a Cubana, ham and cheese, and eggplant. They also serve breakfast sandwiches until 1 p.m., plus fries and taquitos for small snacks and tres leches cake for dessert.
“The owner Agustín Morales comes from a lineage of chefs,” Casa Morales head chef Felipe Kwon tells YourCityWithIN.com. “As a big foodie from Mexico, he is looking to push himself and his business to grow and share good food the way he knows it.”
