Toronto now has a new restaurant for Southern French food

Toronto just got a new restaurant that’s supposed to be a “love letter to Southern France.”
New brasserie La Plume opens up today at The Well, making it the second culinary contribution to the development from well-known local restaurant group Oliver & Bonacini. The first was Aera, situated on the 38th floor, and the group is also opening another restaurant called The Dorset at The Well. The group is responsible for other popular restaurants, including The Joneses and Maison Selby.
The seasonal menu at La Plume is inspired by executive chef John Horne’s time spent in the South of France. The menu includes a tartare bar, several variations on steak frites and a whole bird rotisserie program.
Organic Giannone chickens are brined for eight hours, seasoned with a signature spice blend, dry-aged for two days to ensure crispy skin and roasted on an in-house spit.
Other menu highlights include mushroom tartare, gnocchi Parisienne and curried Salt Spring mussels, along with desserts like a Paris-Brest for two and rotisserie pineapple clafoutis.
You can’t forget the drinks, of course, with options like a Riviera Spritz or a Plume Negroni. The best part? There’s more than one happy hour: drinks are half off from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 9 p.m. to close, it’s “Après Après” with a list of $12 feature cocktails.
Not only should the food transport you to the South of France, the interior aims to take your breath away. Solid Design Creative intended to pay homage to French architecture with touches like 14-foot-high ceilings, three-tiered chandeliers and fringed lamps. The space also comes complete with a private dining room and an upper terrace that overlooks Wellington Street.
Pssst…you might even find a speakeasy called Bonne Nuit if you stumble upon a certain bathroom stall.
La Plume opens April 4 for lunch service starting at 11:45 a.m.
