Toronto ranked top international destination for 'foodies'

Toronto has been named one of the top destinations for foodies worldwide.

According to the UK-based travel blog Travelbag, Toronto earned its place on the podium for where our neighbours across the Atlantic would prefer to sample international cuisine.

Travelbag’s full list is as follows:

    • Melbourne
    • Toronto
    • Dubai
    • Sydney
    • Hanoi
    • Chicago
    • Houston
    • Tokyo
    • Bangkok
    • New York

While Toronto may only have won second place, the report did highlight what makes the city so special compared to the international food landscape.

According to Travelbag, Toronto’s unique contributions include the city’s Thai, Greek, and Turkish food scenes, alongside must-see neighbourhoods like Kensington Market and the Distillery District.

Concerning online metrics for food bloggers, Toronto also bolsters 2,600,000 food-adjacent Instagram posts and 145,600 TikTok videos with the hashtag #torontofood — some of the largest numbers Travelbag has recorded for city-specific food posts.

Beyond culinary highlights, the report also indicated that, according to Travelbag, Toronto features 103 listed culturally diverse cuisine styles and 40 dynamic food and drink activities that cannot be found anywhere else.

Additional details included a favourable average full meal cost compared to other cities — roughly 66 British pounds ($120 CAN).

So for those thinking they need to jump on a plane to get some of the best food the world has on offer, think twice, as what you are looking for may be in your backyard.
