Two installations that were part of the Toronto-based Winter Stations design competition have made their way to Mississauga.

The public art pieces–”delighthouse” and “3 Surfaces Pavilion”–mark the first satellite exhibit for Winter Stations. The installations, brought in by real estate developers Brixen, are located at the Small Arms Inspection Building at the corner of Lakeshore and Dixie Rd.

The installations, previously located on Woodbine Beach in Toronto, sit opposite the Brixen-developed Exhale Residences site.

delighthouse, designed by UK artists Nick Green and Greig Pirrie, is inspired by lighthouses in coastal cities in and outside Canada. The 3 Surfaces Pavilion, designed by Mexican artists S-AR: Cesar Guerrero, Ana Cecilia Garza and Orlando Garcia, is immersive and allows visitors to inhabit it in different ways.

“We are thrilled to be introducing Winter Stations to Mississauga for the first time ever. We are encouraging people to come out and view these fun, colourful installations and are hopeful they would inspire a sense of happiness and joy for the people in this neighbourhood,” said Alexander D’Orazio, co-founder of Brixen Developments, in a statement.

“As a company that values community engagement and cultural enrichment, we also hope that the art plays a crucial role in enhancing this area and the city of Mississauga.”

The installations will be on display until the end of May.

According to Brixen Developments, Winter Stations was first launched in 2015 and this year’s theme is “Radiance.” The artists were asked to define what Radiance means to them, with five winning designs selected from hundreds of submissions worldwide, alongside three student designs from Toronto Metropolitan University, Waterloo Department of Architecture and Guelph University.
