Well-travelled rocker has a date in Burlington

One of Canada’s best-loved rockers is coming to Burlington.

David Wilcox, who has been a staple of the music since 1970, is set to perform a sold-out show on Jan. 19 at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre (BPAC).

First making his presence felt in 1970 when he joined Ian & Sylvia’s Great Speckled Bird, Wilcox has gone on to provide his guitar skills for such performers as Anne Murray, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich, Maria Muldaur, Todd Rundgren, Paul Butterfield and John Paul Jones (of Led Zeppelin).

But it is his constant touring in smaller venues, appearing in bars, local festivals and college and university pubs, that Wilcox has built up a loyal following over the years.

“You ever been to college chances are pretty good that David Wilcox has performed there,” explained local fan Marky Harris. “Many people have grown up with his music, he’s pretty much performed everywhere and the audience always loves him.

Along the way, Wilcox has supplied music for TV shows (Street Legal) and movies (Cocktail) as his blend of rock that infuses blues, country, ragtime and roots has been adaptable for a diverse audience.

“A superb entertainer. A master guitar player. A great, soulful singer. A unique songwriter. These are a few of the ways David Wilcox has been described. None of them do him justice. Until you have seen David in concert, you have yet to experience something truly remarkable,” is how BPAC describes him
