The Civic Holiday falls on Monday, August 5 2024.

In Toronto, it’s known as Simcoe Day, though the holiday goes by different names in different provinces, and even in different Ontario communities. Since it’s a holiday, many businesses will not be operating as usual. 

Here’s what’s open and closed on the Civic Holiday on Monday, Aug. 5 in Toronto.

  • CF Markville – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • CF Fairview Mall – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • CF Sherway Gardens – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Toronto Premium Outlets – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fireworks:

The city recently reminded residents that the August Civic Holiday is not a designated fireworks day and residents cannot set off fireworks on their property unless they have a permit from Toronto Fire Services.

Fireworks are not allowed in city parks or on beaches, balconies, streets, parking lots or other private property.

There will be no official fireworks displays in Toronto, but official displays will be held at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan and in Niagara Falls at the Falls.
