An internationally renowned chef just announced that he recently tried some of Toronto’s pizza, and he approves.

Wylie Dufresne is well known for his now-closed restaurant wd~50, as well as his other project’s Alder and Du’s Donuts, all located in Manhattan. He has over 103,000 followers on Instagram.

He’s been a major pioneer in the field of molecular gastronomy in the United States and has almost too many awards to count, and if none of this is ringing a bell yet you may recognize him from his numerous appearances on Food Network shows, especially as a judge for competitions.

Now, he’s been judging Toronto’s pizza.

“Thanks for the pizza boondoggle Toronto. Classic rounds….Detroit style….tavern pies. 4 meals in a row, strictly pizza,” reads a recent social media post from Dufresne. “Good times!”

He visited Maker Pizza (rounds), Descendant (Detroit style) and Danny’s Pizza Tavern (tavern pies). Maker Pizza was originally founded with the help of local celeb chef Matty Matheson, and Dufresne mentioned in the post that he also hit up Matheson’s burger restaurant Matty’s Patties. The post has over 500 likes.

Not only does a visit from Dufresne carry weight because of his culinary reputation overall, but also because he himself now runs pizza restaurant Stretch Pizza in New York City.

The Toronto pizza restaurants all commented thanking Dufresne for visiting, with one commenter recommending he also check out Badiali the next time he’s in town. Donut shop Dipped also commented saying he should come by for donuts as well.
