If we have to explain who or what Penn & Teller are, then perhaps it’s best to skip their upcoming November show on the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino Resort.
However, we will clarify one thing: Penn Jillette is the tall one who’s always talking while Ray Teller is the short one who never utters a word.
The world’s most famous magicians and kings of misdirection, the pair is currently the longest-running headliners to play in the same Las Vegas hotel – in this case, The Rio, since 1993.
They first got together in 1975 and by 1985, Penn & Teller were receiving positive reviews for their Off Broadway show and Emmy Award-winning PBS special, Penn & Teller Go Public. In 1987, they began the first of three Broadway runs.
The same year, they appeared as three-card Monte scam artists in the music video for It’s Tricky by Run-DMC, earning them popularity with the youth audience. Through the late 1980s and early 1990s, the duo made numerous television appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and many more.
Penn & Teller had national tours throughout the 1990s, gaining critical praise, and as mentioned, have enjoyed a 30-year run in Las Vegas.
Buoyed by Penn carnival-barker-style raconteur skills, their act never hears a word from Teller – a mainstay schtick of the act since the early 1980s – who instead communicates through mime and nonverbal visual cues.
Their act is as entertaining as it is amazing and they’ll bring to the OLG Stage on Nov. 18 at 9 p.m. For tickets, click here. In the meanwhile, here’s a recent appearance from The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
