A&W is expanding their customer base in Canada to a new unexpected demographic…dogs.

Well, technically their owners, as dogs don’t know how to use a drive-thru, but A&W has now engineered a special “pup patty” just for dogs that you can currently get at their restaurants for a limited time.

The dog safe pup patties are just $2, and are made with A&W’s usual premium grass-fed beef, just without any seasoning like they’d normally be made for a human. It’s actually the first time a Canadian burger chain has ever put an item on their menu that’s just for pets (and for their parents).

The item may be gimmicky, but it’s all for a good cause. A portion of proceeds from every pup patty supports Canadian non-profit service dog training organizations that raise and train dogs to help Canadians living with disabilities, like Pacific Assistance Dogs Society.

“PADS is grateful to A&W not only for this imaginative approach to supporting assistance dog programs across Canada but also for their corporate culture of volunteerism,” said Tara Doherty, director of communications at PADS, in a press release.

“Queso is my fourth Mobility Dog from PADS,” said PADS client Sarah Bourne in a press release.

“He has become an incredible sidekick, enriching my daily life in ways I never thought possible. His exceptional proficiency in physical tasks—like retrieving dropped items, adjusting my feet on my wheelchair footplates, and skillfully opening and closing doors—has granted me new levels of independence and deepened our bond.”

Take note, the pup patty is only available for ordering at drive-thru’s and pets are not allowed inside the restaurant dining area. Consulting with a vet is recommended before feeding human food to pets.

“I have been a PADS volunteer for the past two years so this program is very close to my heart,” said Amanda Wang, A&W’s director of marketing, in a press release.

“When I’m out with a service-dog-in-training, it’s not just a learning opportunity for the puppy but it’s often a chance to enrich the public’s understanding of working dogs as well. I’m very grateful for the support from the whole A&W organization in running this campaign to help further the awareness of non-profits like PADS.”

The pup patty is available at A&W now until June 23.
