An independent local Toronto restaurant has taken to Instagram to speak out against the bad behaviour they say was displayed by one very high profile celeb guest: Zachary Quinto.

“An amazing Spock, but a terrible customer,” begins the post that Manita posted to their Instagram story over the weekend, and later to their grid.

“Yelled at our staff like an entitled child after he didn’t reply to two texts to inform him his table was ready and refused to believe the empty tables in the dining room weren’t available for him despite being politely informed they were spoken for. Made our host cry and the rest of our brunch diners uncomfortable. Mr. Quinto, take your bad vibes somewhere else, we have many lovely celebrities join us at Manita but you are NOT one of them.”

The post on Manita’s Instagram grid has many comments from people in Toronto’s local food scene applauding the restaurant for speaking out against bad behaviour. One person commented saying there could have been some way to accommodate to make sure no one got upset, but their comment has received many replies from people saying there’s no excuse to behave poorly.

The caption of Manita’s grid post reads: “To expand upon yesterday’s story re: Zachary Quinto: This isn’t the first time, nor will it be the last time an irate guest has taken their frustrations out on our staff. Manita is deeply grateful for our mostly incredible, friendly, gracious guests … who may give us constructive feedback from time to time. To all the other Zachary Quintos out there, on behalf of restaurant workers everywhere: We aren’t above criticism, but we are above being demeaned.”

It appears as though Quinto was in town celebrating his birthday, spending the day at Canada’s Wonderland and then appearing to end his night at another restaurant, which looks a little like it could be Paris Paris.

Zachary Quinto has recently taken to posting some cringey videos of himself playing banjo on his Instagram, the most recent of which has more commentary on his recent restaurant behaviour than his musical technique, with people saying things like “The way someone treats staff and others is usually a great way to see someone’s true character. Apparently yours is pretty crappy!” “Disappointed to hear about your snotty attitude towards servers. Shame on you,” and “This song could make a host cry. Oh wait – that’s just your normal behaviour!”

It seems he also may have posted about being at Manita as well prior to being called out, as one comment points out.

“Love how the bday posts are conveniently gone after the restaurant called you out,” reads the comment. “And we need to normalize this more-restaurants calling out abusive customers, famous or not. They’re humans too!”

An Ontario Small Business community Instagram account really let him have it, though, commenting on the banjo playing post: “This is such a nice song. Could you kindly apologize to the local and independent restaurants you terrorized this weekend? See we said your song is nice, even if it is not because there is no reason to be mean. Similarly, there is no reason to be mean, rude and well awful to local Toronto Ontario small and independent businesses. Oh and their hardworking staff. We get it, being hangry is a problem but that’s your problem. Not the staff and small businesses you were awful to. So an apology please, would really go a long way to smoothing over this unfortunate and distasteful situation. Thanks and welcome to Ontario Canada. We like and respect our small businesses here. You should try it sometime, it feels wonderful.”
